Why not join us in the beautiful Capertee Valley in May for a weekend of fresh air, spectacular scenery, and fun while making a positive contribution to the future of the Regent Honeyeater and other threatened and declining woodland birds. New recruits are always welcome, with on-the-job training provided.
The planting is on Saturday 2nd May 2015. Subject to volunteer numbers, planting is expected to be completed by the end of the day, although watering may continue into Sunday morning. We are always looking for volunteers to help prepare the planting stock and guards on Friday 1st May and help with the any follow up work on Sunday 3rd May.
The planting will take place in Glen Alice, a settlement in the Capertee Valley which is north of Lithgow. The property this May is adjacent to the Rylstone Road, near the churchyard. Additional directions will be sent to everyone who RSVPs.
Food: While you will need to cater for your own breakfasts and lunches, a Saturday evening meal is available at a cost of $31 for adults and $6 for children under 12. The evening meal, which is provided by the Glen Alice Community Association, is a great opportunity to socialise with your fellow planters and meet the locals, support the community and is always a popular event.
Accommodation: camping, cottages or arrange your own.
Options range from camping at Glen Davis (free) to staying in one of the cottages in the valley that have been booked by us for the weekend. The cost of cottage accommodation in May will be $90 (i.e. $45 per night per person for 2 nights’ accommodation) or $50 pp for a single night.
Alternatively, you may prefer to arrange your own hotel, motel or other accommodation in the nearby towns of Capertee, Kandos or Rylstone and environs. Please note that camping in cottage grounds is not permitted except with the express approval of the owner(s).
If you would like to join us in May, please fill in the accompanying registration form and return it with payment to Pixie Maloney, Birdlife Southern NSW 30 Forest Road Kulnura NSW 2250, as early as possible, particularly if you want to book cottage accommodation.:
